Install WordPress into an empty website directory or a planned subdirectory. If the domain already hosts a site, back up its files and database and confirm the replacement plan before running an installer.
In the Control Center, open Hosting services → Manage website → WordPress to review tracked applications. This page lists installations; it does not install, update, or clone them. A manually installed site may be absent until Virtualmin detects it, so an empty inventory does not prove the directory is empty.
Prepare the site #
Confirm that the hosting account is active and the correct domain appears in Virtualmin. For the public installation, complete DNS setup and confirm the intended HTTPS address works. Use the Control Center's PHP and Databases tabs to review the required environment. For an existing site's move, follow the migration checklist before redirecting traffic.
Decide whether WordPress should appear at the domain's home page or at a path such as /blog/. The directory you choose determines that initial address.
Use the panel installer if offered #
- Select your domain and open Manage Web Apps. Older installations may call this Install Scripts.
- Choose WordPress from the available applications and open Show Install Options.
- Review the installation directory, database selection, URL, and administrator details. Do not accept an existing database or directory without checking its contents.
- Select Install Now and wait for the completion result.
- Open the management URL shown after installation. Virtualmin web app installer
Install manually if the installer is unavailable #
Download WordPress from its official download page. Create a database and its permitted application user, then upload the extracted WordPress contents into the intended document root. Visit that location in your browser and complete the installer with the database connection details. Use a unique administrator password and an email address you can access. Do not upload the enclosing wordpress folder if you intend the application to appear at the domain's root address. Keep configuration files and credentials private.
Verify and finish #
Sign in, create a draft page, upload a test image, and confirm your public site loads over HTTPS. Check email delivery before relying on password-reset messages. Remove sample content before launch and arrange backups and updates.
Troubleshooting #
If the browser shows the hosting placeholder, check the document root and competing index file. For database errors, verify the full database name, username, hostname, and password. Do not run a second installation over a partly completed site without reviewing what the first attempt created.
