You can order hosting for an existing domain without transferring its registration. You need access to its current DNS records, or to its registrar's nameserver settings if you choose Lucid-managed DNS.
Before you order #
If the domain already serves a website or email, export its DNS records and plan the migration before changing public DNS. The hosting account can be created after payment while the old site stays live. Use that time to prepare and test the destination.
You can choose Keep my DNS provider and update the website records there, or Use Lucid nameservers and move the DNS zone. Preserve your mail provider's MX and authentication records. With Cloudflare, follow the dashboard's DNS-only instructions during verification and certificate setup.
Place the hosting order #
- Choose a hosting plan and add it to the cart.
- Sign in to the customer account that will own the service.
- In Your plan and domain, enter the registered name under Domain you already own. Enter the domain only, without
https://, a path, or an email address. - Review the selected plan, billing period, contact details, and total.
- Complete payment. Keep the order number.
- Open My Account → Hosting services (or Services). When the account is active, select the website and open DNS & SSL.
- Choose the DNS method you intend to use. Once the site is ready for visitors, apply the exact displayed records at your current provider or change to the displayed Lucid nameservers after preparing that zone.
- Use Check DNS records for external DNS, or Check nameservers and any Recheck hosting records action shown for Lucid-managed DNS. Request SSL after the chosen method is confirmed.
Confirm the result #
Use Open Virtualmin for file uploads and advanced tasks. Check the public website, certificate coverage, and email separately after setup. Continue renewing the domain at its registrar unless you later complete a transfer.
If checkout cannot verify the domain, check its spelling and registration status. A lookup problem can also prevent verification. Use support if the message persists; buying the same hosting plan again will not fix a registration lookup.
