Choose Use Lucid nameservers when you want Lucid to host the domain's DNS zone. Hosting creation and DNS connection are separate: you can prepare the account before changing a live domain's nameservers. You can also keep an external DNS provider.
Prepare an existing domain #
Save the current website, email, verification, and subdomain records. A nameserver change does not copy those records. Prepare the destination website and arrange any external email records in the new zone before switching. If DNSSEC is enabled, coordinate the DS-record transition with the registrar and DNS provider.
Change the nameservers #
- Open My Account → Hosting services in Control Center and select the intended website through Manage or Manage website.
- Open DNS & SSL, choose Use Lucid nameservers, and copy the exact nameservers shown for this service.
- Once your hosting account and migration are ready, sign in to the registrar and replace its nameserver set. For a domain managed here, use My Account → Domains to reach its registration controls. Do not mix unrelated providers' nameservers.
- Return to the hosting setup and use Check nameservers. Compare the detected delegation with the displayed set.
- After delegation is confirmed, Lucid checks the Virtualmin zone and adds missing hosting address records. Use Recheck hosting records if the checklist offers it.
- Wait for the website DNS check to pass, then use Request Let’s Encrypt SSL if you want the supported free certificate for this website.
Verify completion #
Confirmed delegation, configured address records, and public DNS readiness are separate checks. A saved nameserver change does not establish all three. Registries and resolvers can update or cache answers at different times; repeated clicks do not speed that up.
If a check keeps detecting old nameservers, confirm you edited delegation at the registrar rather than NS records inside the old zone. If the required set is confirmed but address records remain pending, record the displayed message and ask support to review the hosting zone.
Test the public website and email separately. An older order may still show Awaiting nameservers from the previous setup process. Contact support to reconcile it if account creation remains stuck; a new purchase is not needed.
