Choose the type of hosting entry based on the content you want visitors to see. Use a sub-server for a separate website under your existing owner account. Use an alias for another name that serves an existing site, or a redirect to send visitors to a preferred address.
Add a separate website in the Control Center #
Open My Account → Hosting services, find the intended service, and expand Add a website. Enter a domain or permitted subdomain you control, choose Continue, then publish the displayed TXT verification record at its current DNS provider. Select Verify & create website after the record becomes visible. Follow the complete verification guide for the exact record-name rules.
Keep the current nameservers during verification. After creation, choose whether to keep your DNS provider or use Lucid nameservers. Website creation does not copy your existing content or move email.
All these websites share a hosting owner, login, renewal, storage, and account limits. The allowance includes the original site and sites added through Virtualmin; aliases may consume domain slots too. Separate directories do not provide separate security-isolated accounts.
Use Virtualmin for aliases and advanced setup #
- Select the parent domain in Virtualmin.
- Open Create Virtual Server if your account permits it. Contact support if the allowance or intended structure is unclear.
- Choose Sub-server for an independent site, or Alias of… for an additional name for the selected site.
- Enter the complete hostname, such as
help.example.com, or the other registered domain. Review the description and enabled features. - Save and wait for the creation result. Note the new document root if you created a separate site. Virtualmin creation guide
The Control Center does not create aliases. Sites created directly in Virtualmin can appear as Added in Virtualmin and use Use hosting login for management. Do not add the same domain again in the dashboard.
Connect the name and certificate #
Create or confirm records at the authoritative DNS provider, following the selected setup method. Keeping external DNS is supported. For Lucid DNS, wait for confirmed delegation and preserve existing mail and verification records. A hosting entry does not register a domain.
Arrange a certificate that covers the new hostname before relying on HTTPS. For an alias, confirm that the application accepts the alias hostname; some applications redirect visitors to their configured primary URL.
Verify the result #
Visit the new address over HTTPS. For a sub-server, confirm it serves its intended directory. Test login and forms; for an alias, check the content and resulting browser address.
Troubleshooting #
For the wrong site, compare DNS, hosting entry, and document root. For HTTPS errors, check certificate coverage. If the allowance cannot be verified, refresh or contact support rather than placing another order.
