Request a change to your existing service when you need different hosting resources. The checkout's option to replace a hosting plan changes only an unpurchased cart item. A second purchase for the same domain may create a separate order that cannot be provisioned against the existing account.
Prepare the request #
- Open My Account → Hosting services (or Services) and identify the domain and current plan.
- Note the resources you need to change, such as storage, bandwidth, mailbox capacity, or the number of websites.
- Review the available plans and any application requirements.
- Back up the website and databases before a change that could affect runtime versions, paths, or service configuration.
- Use a plan-change option if your account offers one. Otherwise contact support with the domain, existing order number, current plan, and desired plan.
Ask support to confirm the price, effective date, any credit or prorated charge, expected interruption, and whether your data needs to move. These depend on the service and are not implied by the price of a new plan.
Before a downgrade #
Check total storage, mailbox usage, databases, and additional sites against the proposed limits. Keep room for uploads, logs, email delivery, and updates. Download and verify any files you intend to remove, then remove only data you recognize.
A lower quota can cause writes, uploads, or email delivery to fail if current usage exceeds the allowance. Do not assume that reducing a plan will choose and remove unwanted data for you.
Verify the result #
After confirmation, check the plan and resource allocation in the service page and Virtualmin. Test website pages, forms, database access, and email. Review the next billing amount or invoice.
If you are upgrading to address slowness, also identify the cause. A broken query, plugin conflict, or external API delay may persist on a larger plan.
