How to transfer a domain to another registrar

Start an outbound transfer with the registrar you want to move to. Prepare your domain here first, and keep website hosting, email, and DNS active for as long as they are needed.

1. Check the new registrar's support for your extension, transfer requirements, price, and effect on the registration term.
2. Open My Account > Domains, select the managed domain, and review its expiration and status. Resolve any restriction that prevents a transfer.
3. Confirm that your current contact email is reachable. Ask support before changing registrant details if a transfer is imminent, because a contact change can affect transfer eligibility.
4. Open Lock & privacy. If an ordinary transfer-lock control is available and the domain is eligible, set Transfer lock to Off and choose Update transfer lock.
5. Open Contacts & verification and use Get transfer authorization code when available. Copy the code securely; it is shown for that request.
6. Submit the transfer at your new registrar, providing the code through its secure process. Follow legitimate confirmation instructions from both providers.
7. Once the transfer completes, confirm the registrar, expiration, nameservers, website, and email with the new provider.

Keep services running: Transferring registration does not migrate hosting or mail. If the current nameservers provide DNS through a service that will end, prepare replacement DNS before that service ends. Do not cancel hosting until your data is moved and the new setup is verified.

If you cannot unlock or retrieve a code: Contact support with the domain and displayed message. A registry restriction, contact-change lock, or pending operation may need different handling from the normal lock switch. ICANN's transfer policy describes transfer restrictions for covered generic extensions; country-code extensions can follow different rules.

If you change your mind: Contact the gaining registrar and support promptly. The account area does not provide a universal approval or cancellation button, and cancellation cannot be assumed once the transfer completes.
